whats your thinking behind the shove on the turn rather than a sizeable reraise, planning to get it all in to a 3bet or on the river?
Turn bet-sizing wasn't as shovey as it looks. A pot-sized raise has Santa AI anyway. By me pushing AI, it looks more like I don't want a call.
His $40 may have been a dbl barrel, 2-pair, trips, str8, str8 draw or flush draw. The board was still susceptible to a diamond or pair.
A min-raise would give him the pot odds to call and try to hit.
In reality, I hit "pot" and the figure had him AI anyway, so let's charge him for his draw. If he'd folded, I wouldn't have been unhappy as he would have been a draw often enough to make the free/cheap card a mistake.
As it worked out, the 5h was perfect!
How do you play if it's 5d instead of h?
If he had hit a flush, his $40 bet would be consistent with that. I think then I go for pot control and call it down regardless of river bet-size, unless there is a 4th diamond in which case I'd let it go.
That is a trickier spot though and calling down may be a leak in my NL game. On the other hand, not calling down may be a bigger leak.
Great question ... So much to learn.
